An Educator, An Innovator, A Leader

LINCOLN ROOTS

Thien’s Story

Born in Vietnam and immigrated to the United States in 1994, Thien Chu has been a faithful Lincoln resident since he was a year old. He attended Lincoln High School and studied Secondary Education in the Natural Sciences and Educational Psychology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Thien’s decision to run for the District 2 seat on the City Council is rooted in his passion for learning and teaching. He is a product of federally and publicly funded educational and leadership programs, affording him the opportunity to attend college and pursue a career in education. His experiences as a teacher in Omaha and Lincoln Public Schools have fueled his desire to become a voice for the marginalized and underrepresented communities in Lincoln as Thien recognized the impact of socioeconomic status on student and family success.

Currently, Thien is a full-time junior high math and science teacher at Blessed Sacrament. An advocate of STEM, he hopes to utilize logic and reason to establish purposeful changes to Lincoln’s benefit.

Issues & Platform

Accessible Education

Meaningful support for public educational programs and institutions is a priority for Thien. This includes promoting availability for all and providing proper funding towards instructional resources. Thien believes that educated individuals make educated decisions.

Environmental Action

Thien would like to see specific, data-driven solutions to our most pressing environmental concerns, such as flooding and drought. Organizations and corporations looking to make the change for a greener city will be pushed to be explicit in their language and goals.

Public Health & Safety

Thien is concerned for the safety and well-being of Lincoln’s residents and will work to destigmatize health and needs seeking behavior and engagement in care. He plans to provide more opportunities for the public to interact with law enforcement, first responders, and professionals in the mental health sector to build stronger human relationships.

Accountable Representatives

The voice of Lincoln’s inhabitants depends on the morals of our city’s representatives. Thien will fight to curb the influence of money and large donations on local city politics and keep our officials accountable.

personal statement

Thank You For Visiting

I appreciate and encourage exploration of all candidates as I believe it is the citizens’ right to know who you are voting for and what they represent. From a logistical standpoint, I recognize that my values may not completely align with those who I hope to represent, but I implore you to support any candidate who you share the most in common with in terms of ideology rather than vote on a single issue or based on party affiliation.

I am not a perfect human being, and my decisions and beliefs are ultimately the outcomes of my life experiences, which includes being a Vietnamese-American immigrant, a student of Lincoln Public Schools and the University, a beneficiary of low-income assistance programs, a Catholic, an advocator of STEM, a community leader, and, most importantly, an educator. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me; I am not difficult to reach. Let us continue to have fruitful conversations to further strengthen our city’s development.
